...when working on new colour palettes with clients, and they are a little unsure about the direction of their colour theme, I always advise them to gather together everything that they have collected so far. Snippets from magazines, ribbons, collected ephemera, beads, buttons, absolutely anything and everything that has been stored away in boxes and files. From this point you can take a base colour such as white, ivory, oatmeal, champagne (think of your dress) and start to collate tiny little mood boards. You may already have thought of a theme to your wedding. For example if you are working with a 'rustic french' theme, think about your main base colour. Deep creams, faded straw, oatmeal, hessians maybe an idea as a base colour which help achieve a more natural palette to then base other colours...then consider the proportions of colour coming through such as sunflower and custard yellows or violet and lavender, thyme and rosemary greens.....
These photos are from a consultation that I had with a client last night. I quickly pieced these together to illustrate to her about the quantities of colour used for her reception stationery. Her ideal is to have varied tones of whites and creams but bringing together flashes of warm gold, yellows, and the venues walls are painted a very soft duck egg blue and she noticed that there was a lot of red here and there in the rugs and paintings around.
So, if you are at crossroads as to which direction to go with colour, then this could be how you could just fill your weekend..........pritt sticks and scissors at the ready.....
